What’s My Skin Type? (And Why It Matters)

Why Skin Type Matters

Your skin type isn’t just a label — it’s your skin’s personality. And just like any relationship, the better you understand it, the better you can treat it. Every glow goal starts here.

Choosing products without knowing your type is like dressing for the wrong season — uncomfortable, ineffective, and sometimes damaging.

The 5 Main Skin Types

1. Normal

Balanced, happy, rarely reactive. Think of this as the skincare “baseline.”

  • Feels like: smooth, few visible pores
  •
  • Needs: gentle maintenance, light hydration

2. Dry

Tight, flaky, or rough to the touch — your skin is craving moisture and nourishment.

  • Feels like: tight post-cleansing, dull or patchy
  •
  • Needs: deep hydration, barrier repair ingredients like ceramides or squalane

3. Oily

You glow — and not always in the good way. Oil overproduction can lead to shine and breakouts.

  • Feels like: greasy by midday, enlarged pores
  •
  • Needs: lightweight hydration, oil-regulating ingredients like niacinamide

4. Combination

Dry in some areas (typically cheeks), oily in others (hello, T-zone). Tricky but manageable.

  • Feels like: a mix — shiny in one area, dry in another
  •
  • Needs: balancing formulas, not stripping or too rich

5. Sensitive

Easily irritated, often red or inflamed. You’re reacting to something — and your routine needs a reset.

  • Feels like: burning, redness, itchiness
  •
  • Needs: calming, fragrance-free, minimal ingredients (think oat, green tea, centella)

How to Identify Your Skin Type

Step 1: Cleanse gently, then wait 1 hour with no products.

Step 2: Observe — tightness = dry, shine = oily, redness = sensitive.

Step 3: Use blotting paper (optional) — oily skin shows excess oil, dry skin shows nothing.
